What Is Wordtune?

screenshot of wordtune website hero section

Wordtune is an AI-powered writing assistant that helps to rewrite content. Simply put, it is a paraphrasing tool, but it also helps to check grammar and fix spelling errors, which aids in improving your writing style.

It can also expand or shorten sentences, summarize text, and help overcome writer’s block using an AI assistant that can explain, give examples, add a fact or quote, provide counterarguments, etc.

Unfortunately, Wordtune is not suitable for storytelling and creative writing. It is best for formal writing.

Wordtune Review: TL;DR

  • Wordtune is a SaaS program, which means you can use it directly on the web. There is nothing to install on your computer.
  • It can paraphrase your text and offers two modes for paraphrasing.
  • Wordtune can either expand or shorten sentences.
  • The program has a tool called Wordtune Read that can summarize any text.
  • The platform has a surprisingly simple and intuitive user interface.

Who is Wordtune for?

Wordtune is for anyone who writes in English. The program can rewrite or paraphrase content to convey the message more clearly.

Because of its integrated grammar checker and spellchecker, Wordtune helps anyone to improve their writing.

So, whether you are writing a blog post, an email, or sharing a post or an article anywhere on the web, Wordtune can help to write in correct English.

Non-English speakers can also improve their vocabulary using Wordtune.

Wordtune Review: Pros and Cons

Wordtune Pros:

  • Wordtune offers a free version to test the program before subscribing. You can keep using the free version as long as you want.
  • The Wordtune editor has a clean interface that is easy to use.
  • The program offers a Chrome browser extension and a Microsoft Word add-on.
  • The rewriting feature generates multiple versions of the original sentence so that you can select the most appropriate one.
  • There is no desktop app because Wordtune offers an online editor.

Wordtune Cons:

  • The free plan is limited and allows only ten sentence rewrites a day.
  • You will need a premium plan to rewrite an entire paragraph at once. That’s still stifling.
  • There is no integrated plagiarism checker to ensure the paraphrased content is plagiarism-free.
  • Wordtune has limited features for its price. Its competitor QuillBot offers more features for a lower price.

Wordtune Review: Features

Though Wordtune features are limited, they are powerful. Let’s go through the features quickly.

Wordtune Editor UI:

The first thing you notice when you log into your Wordtune account is the Wordtune Editor. The editor lets you type or paste your text. All AI-assisted rewriting features are arranged horizontally on the top.

While the left side of the screen is the editor, the right side is where you will see recommendations to improve fluency, clarity, and readability.

Rewrite Sentences:

The core feature is the Rewrite tool. Once you add text to the editor, simply select the sentence you want to change, then click the Rewrite button. However, when you select the text, a logo appears next to the highlighted text, so clicking on the logo also works.

Wordtune displays multiple rewritten variants. You are free to select the most appropriate one. However, if you are not happy with the output, you can ask the tool to rewrite the sentence again.

Remember that the free version will only allow sentence-level rewriting. If you want the AI writing tool to rewrite an entire paragraph, you must subscribe to the premium version of the program.

Casual and Formal Tones:

If you want Wordtune to rewrite sentences in a casual or formal tone, click on the Casual or Formal button instead of the Rewrite button.

The process is the same. Add your text to the editor, highlight the sentence you want to rewrite in a specific tone, and click the relevant button.

As before, you will see a set of recommendations. If you are not happy with the rewrite, you can ask Wordtune to rewrite the sentence again.

Shorten and Expand:

These two options will allow you to shorten or expand a sentence. The shortening feature is suitable when you want your text to be concise. Wordtune works by removing unnecessary words and altering the sentence structure if necessary.

The Expand feature will expand your sentence with extra detail. This is useful when you are experiencing writer’s block.

Smart Synonyms:

Wordtune helps to improve your vocabulary by helping you find better words. Just highlight any word and the program will show you a list of synonyms that are a better fit for the sentence. Its advanced AI algorithms can understand the context of your sentence to provide recommendations.

Suggestions and Corrections:

If you are a content writer, you will appreciate this feature. While composing long-form content using the Wordtune editor, it will display grammar corrections on the right panel and suggestions for improving vocabulary.

Wordtune Spices:

Spices is a new feature that Wordtune introduced in 2023. In the beta testing phase, Spices helps to explain a text, provide an example, add a quote or a fact, reiterate a message using different words, provide a definition, etc.

If you are trying to generate content using AI, Spices gives you some control over the direction. However, it is yet to reach its full potential, and there is so much more to desire. For instance, you cannot instruct the AI to include specific keywords.

For content creators, search engine optimization is important and that is something Spices cannot do for now.

Translate:

Yes, you can translate using Wordtune, but the accuracy can be questionable at times. To use this feature, simply input your text in a different language and ask the Rewrite prompt to generate output. You will receive a list of rewritten sentences in English.

Here is an example of a German text “Guten Morgen! Wie fühlst du dich heute?” In English, it translates into, “Good Morning! How are you feeling today?”

This is what Wordtune did:

This translation feature can be beneficial for non-native English speakers, but I found that certain languages like Italian, Japanese, etc. may cause Wordtune to go haywire.

Here is the same text in Japanese and this is what Wordtune does to the “Good Morning” part:

While the translation feature may be helpful, I will still recommend using a better translator.

Wordtune Read:

Wordtune Read is a feature that can summarize long articles, blog posts, reports, research papers, or new articles.

It is useful if you don’t have enough time to go through the entire piece and just want the gist.

You can access Wordtune Read directly from the Wordtune website or you can install the Google Chrome extension.

Wordtune Review: Integrations

Wordtune easily integrates with multiple platforms using the Wordtune Chrome extension. The browser extension will allow you to use Wordtune with online editors like Microsoft Word Online, Google Docs, etc.

Not just that, the extension will allow you to use Wordtune across platforms like Gmail, Facebook, Slack Web, WhatsApp Web, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

They also have a separate add-on for the Microsoft Word desktop app.

Wordtune Review: Wordtune Alternatives

There are many AI writing tools available today with different features and purposes. However, here are the top direct Wordtune alternatives to check:

Wordtune vs. QuillBot

QuillBot is by far the most popular AI writing assistant for paraphrasing. Unlike Wordtune, QuillBot provides more paraphrasing modes, and it allows limiting the number of synonyms you can use.

The best part is that it can rewrite long articles at once. But if you need, they also allow sentence-level paraphrasing.

Additionally, QuillBot has a separate Citation Generator, Summarizer, Plagiarism Checker, Translator, and Co-Writer. Co-Writer is an interesting tool that combines all tools into one and also allows performing online searches (research).

The best part is that QuillBot is much cheaper and the pricing starts at $4.17 a year for yearly billing. For monthly billing, the price is $9.95 a month.

Wordtune vs. ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid is not really a direct competitor of Wordtune, because it does not offer the paraphrasing feature. However, it does help to find and fix grammatical errors. Additionally, it also has a style editor that allows one to check and improve writing style. Wordtune lacks the style editor feature.

Like Wordtune, ProWritingAid offers a browser extension and integration with the Microsoft Word desktop app.

Wordtune vs. Hemingway Editor

Hemingway Editor is similar to ProWritingAid. The Hemingway AI writing assistant helps to find grammatical errors in real-time and provides various suggestions on how to improve your writing.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a paraphrasing tool like Wordtune, but it provides a readability score and even highlights the text that you must edit and improve.

Wordtune vs. Grammarly

Grammarly is one of the most popular grammar checker AI tools out there. Like Wordtune, you will receive real-time analysis by identifying and fixing grammatical mistakes.

However, unlike ProWritingAid and Hemingway Editor, Grammarly may suggest paraphrased sentences to improve content clarity.

Wordtune Review: Summary

Powered by artificial intelligence, Wordtune makes writing easy. It can help you write better sentences by suggesting alternative ways to compose a sentence without changing its meaning.

If English isn’t your native language, Wordtune can be a life-changing program because it can help you to write perfect grammar. Additionally, you can write in two different tones which include a formal tone and a casual tone.

Overall, if you are a content creator, Wordtune can be a great tool to make your life easier and improve your writing style.

Wordtune Review: FAQs

Is Wordtune a good AI writing assistant?

The Wordtune AI writing tool helps to paraphrase content and even rewrite the text in casual and formal tones. It can even help by adding quotes, facts, definitions, etc.

The program can even help to improve your vocabulary with smart synonyms and also help to improve your writing skills with real-time grammar checks and suggestions.

However, it cannot replace a human writer.

Is Wordtune as good as Grammarly?

Wordtune is better for rephrasing content. However, when it comes to checking grammar, Grammarly is way better at detecting advanced grammatical issues.

Also, Grammarly has an integrated plagiarism checker whereas Wordtune lacks that feature. The one you select will depend on your needs.

What is better than Wordtune?

For paraphrasing, QuillBot is a much better option than Wordtune. Wordtune has only two writing modes apart from the basic rewriter.

QuillBot gives five writing modes, the ability to control the extent of synonyms used, and allows freezing of words that will not be replaced with synonyms while rewriting.

Plus, QuillBot also offers many extra tools like a citation generator, a plagiarism checker, a co-writer tool, etc., that Wordtune lacks.

The best part is that QuillBot is way cheaper than Wordtune, making it a better choice for people on a tight budget.

Is it worth it to buy Wordtune?

While considering Wordtune pricing, it’s important to weigh these benefits against your specific needs for writing and editing written content.

What are the disadvantages of Wordtune?

Despite its many advantages, an honest review would reveal that Wordtune has some limitations. One downside is the lack of a plagiarism checker, which is crucial for ensuring original sentence integrity. When you compare Wordtune with other AI writing tools, its standout features include its advanced grammar correction capabilities, ability to adapt to different writing styles, and the unique Wordtune Read feature for summarizing long texts. Its AI-driven approach to enhancing the quality of written content sets it apart in the market.

Is Wordtune completely free?

No, it is not! In fact, Wordtune’s free version has the most stifling restrictions I have ever seen. It only allows rewriting 10 sentences for free in a day. You must be a paid subscriber to lift that restriction.

In comparison, the free version of QuillBot allows rewriting as many sentences as you want, but you can paraphrase only 125 words at once. That’s still better because there is no limit to the number of times you can paraphrase.
