So you’re in love with your business right?

It’s the best thing since sliced bread and you’re going to change the world!

If that statement isn’t quite true yet then make sure you read and act upon Create a Crystal Clear Vision for You / Your Business. You can’t help being excited once you can see what it looks like!

The challenge is conveying your vision to others.

You’re excited about it yes, but how do you get your customers and team members excited?

How do you get them bought in hook, line and sinker so they’re as passionate about your business as you are?

How do you get your graphic designer to create images that suit your brand and message?

How do you get your customer support assistant to answer emails and support tickets as you would?

How do you get your web designer to create a blog that epitomises your vision?

More importantly, how do you get your customers to tell everyone they know about you and your business?

The answer my friend is a Mission Statement.

Now before you groan and click away labelling this as just another post on corporate jargon BS, hear me out.

You’ll have heard of the old ‘Elevator Pitch’ right?

This is the short statement that pretty much paints a picture of your business in the time it takes to ride an elevator.

(Originally born in Hollywood by the way, by screenwriters pitching their film to producers in the lift – just a little trivia for you!)

Well your Mission Statement and your Elevator Pitch should be one and the same thing.

You should be able to make a short statement about your business that expresses your vision, your brand and your message, so clearly and with such passion that the listener is instantly captivated, intrigued and wants to know more!

The beauty of this statement is that everyone who touches your business in anyway, team member, customer, investor, friend knows exactly what you stand for and what you want to achieve.

Now I don’t want you to just write any normal run of the mill mission statement, created by corporate companies and hung on the wall just for show.

I want you to write something that you live and breath! Something that gives your tummy butterflies when you think about it.

Action Steps

Tuck yourself away somewhere with a pen and a piece of paper and perhaps a glass of wine. I’ve always found wine to be particularly effective when trying to get the creative juices flowing!

You’re going to ask and answer four key questions. (Please note I am going to use my business and vision as an example)

  1. What is the ultimate objective of your business?

    For example:
The ultimate objective of my business is to educate and inspire. I want to create content and courses that both help people understand online business & marketing techniques, and also inspire them to achieve their goals and dreams.

So for me the answer is ’To educate and inspire

  2. Who is your business for?

    For example:
I want to help people who are looking to create a lifestyle business. Something they can run and manage from anywhere in the world, giving them the freedom to live the life they choose.

So for me the answer is ‘Solopreneurs

  3. How does your business solve their biggest challenges?

    For example:
I create content, training videos, ebooks, courses, support groups for my community and in the future will also offer seminars & retreats (exciting!)

So for me the answer is ‘Training Courses, group support & mentorship

  4. Why? What makes you special?

This is the fairy dust you need to sprinkle on top of your statements so far.

    For example:
I do what I do because I want to make a difference. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping others achieve their goals & dreams and because I’m already living a life of freedom, I know that others can too, so I’m truly passionate about showing them how!

So for me, my fairy dust is the fact that I have a deep passion for teaching and inspiring and also helping people make a difference to their lives and the lives of others through the wonderful online world.

Now put those 4 answers together and a mission statement should just pop out!

Here’s mine:

I help people create lifestyle businesses online which gives them the freedom to work from anywhere in the world, whether that be their living room or a beach in Fiji. Via online training courses, group coaching, seminars and mentorship I educate and further inspire these solopreneurs on how to start and grow their idea into a job quitting income.

Summary

You may look at that statement and think it’s all fluff and it doesn’t make a difference to what you’re trying to achieve so why bother.

Well let me ask you a question.

Imagine you’re a customer thinking about spending money with me, or a web designer about to design my website, or an investor considering investing in me.

Which statement would intrigue you enough to make you want to learn more?

  1. I help people create and grow businesses online.

Not only that but how clear are you now on what you actually DO! What content you should provide, who you should target, who the ideal profile of your customer is!
