Welcome to Episode 61 of Make it Happen Monday!
Do you really believe in your products or services, but you just don’t know where your customers are?
No matter how amazing your goods are, if you don’t where your customers ‘hang out’, you can’t place your products or services in front of these people for them to buy.
This all boils down to research. You might be able to make some assumptions, but you really need to get out there and research.
But that can sometimes feel rather daunting as there is a huge online world out there with so many platforms.
In this week’s Make It Happen Monday, I’m sharing with you how to methodically find your target customers, and find out where they are having conversations and engaging with others, so that you too can engage with them.

Today, we’re going to talk about how to find your market. Where are they?
Where are my potential customers?
You need to know where your market is, where they hang out, where they are engaging with other people and brands etc.
If you don’t know this, then no matter how amazing your products or services are, you won’t be able to place them in front of the right people who will buy.
Now, most people will be on Facebook and Instagram. Almost 80% of all traffic online is on one of these 2 platforms. So chances are, your target market is on there.
But that’s far too general. Facebook and Instagram are huge!
We need to concentrate on where they are on Facebook and Instagram (or anywhere else online), and also, how we find them.
Your challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is…
Get out there and find your target market:
1) Know WHO your customer is
Before you can get out there and find your target market, you need to know who they actually are. What age are they? What location? Gender? Socioeconomic factors? In other words, you need to know the demographic.
Otherwise, finding these people becomes almost impossible! Get this right, and you will understand what actions your customers take, and where they are likely to hang out online.
If you haven’t done so already, watch Make It Happen Monday episode 59, Why You Must Define Your Target Customer, where I walk you through, step by step, how to really get inside the heads of your customers, and really understand who they are.
2) Research various platforms
With your demographics to hand, spend some time going to the different platforms, and get involved with the conversations, chat to different people, and get a feel for who is on what platform.
A little bit of common sense is needed here. For example, if your market is affluent business people aged 45+, chances are they will be on LinkedIn. If your market is stay-at-home parents, perhaps a platform such as Pinterest would be good?
But don’t just assume. Actually go and join in on some conversations with people. What are they interested in? What are people searching for, or clicking on?
What things are engaging these people? And, where are you finding the most engagement with you and your brand?
3) Research your competitors and peers
This is an absolutely fantastic way of knowing where your customers are. Where are your peers?
The people that are in your niche or industry, where are they posting their blog posts? Where are they having conversations? Where are they advertising? Where is the bulk of their content?
It’s likely that if they are on certain platforms, that’s exactly where YOUR customers are!
See what your competitors are up to, what they are doing, and what kinds of conversations they are having on different platforms.
Get out there and start researching! In this game, you’ve go to be IN it to win it!
What else can I do?
