There is no magic button!

Even after all these years, with all the different information online, tips and strategies, people are still looking for that magic button!

Even after all these years, with all the different information online, tips and strategies, people are still looking for that magic button!

There is no quick one-push button to make a million overnight.

It just doesn’t exist. Every single strategy to building any business, online or offline, takes determination, tenacity, hard work, and sheer single-mindedness.

You have to just know, deep down, this is what you want to do. Failure is not an option.

If you’re somebody who is still chasing that magic button, please stop because it does not exist. You’ve got to put in some elbow grease!

Don’t let fear hold you back

I have made plenty of mistakes in the past. I’ve not really known who I am, what I’m doing, or what direction my business is going in.

But the simple fact is I’m still here. Yes, I’ve made lots of mistakes, I’ve done things wrong, I’ve changed my brand, and I’ve been inconsistent. But I’m still here!

If fear is holding you back, if you’re not sure you’re moving in the right direction, if you’re not sure you’re doing the right thing, stop worrying!

Just keep moving anyway. Because if you just literally stop, you’re not going to get anywhere.

Ideas and thoughts don’t make a business. Getting out there, taking action and making it happen, that’s what makes a business.

Embrace your mistakes as part of the learning experience. Every successful person you’ll ever meet have had failures!

 Your challenge!

Your challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is…

Start taking the first steps to building your business:

1) Know what business you are in.

Your business is not make money online. The point of all businesses is to make money. But just making money (online or offline) is not a business.

Your business actually needs to be something.

What are you actually offering? What are your services or products? What is your business? Who are you? What do you give and help people with?

For the first 2-3 years, I really wasn’t sure of my direction. I really wasn’t sure what my business was or who my market was.

I only started to get somewhere when I zeroed in on exactly what my business does, which was teaching people how to create Facebook fan pages.

I wasn’t teaching people how to make money online. I was teaching people how to use Facebook fan pages to grow their business.

I then moved on to teaching people how to use Facebook advertising to grow their businesses.

I then diversified to more general online marketing strategies, such as different ways of building a list, building a community, doing content marketing etc.

In other words, my business was teaching and coaching people to grow their businesses.

You also need to gain clarity on what your business does – the sooner the better!

What do you do? What do you teach? What strategies? What tips? What services do you provide? What products do you provide? What is your business?

2) Choose your authority platform.

Imagine your platform as a shopfront, and your community are the people who visit your shop or walk past your shop.

If you’ve only got 100 people on your email database, then your shopfront is down this dark alley somewhere that nobody’s ever heard of.

If you’ve got thousands of people on your email database, followers, fans, etc, then your shopfront is on Park Avenue in New York!

The bigger your community, the more visible your shopfront is. So start building a community!

Where are you going to put your shopfront to get as much visibility as possible?

Are you going to be a blogger? Are you going to do podcasts? Are you going to run webinars? Are you going to be on Facebook?

Are you an Instagram person? Are you a Pinterest person? Are you a Periscope person?

You don’t need be on every platform out there. Just pick one that’s going to be your main authority platform, and start building your community.

3) Decide what you’re actually selling in your ‘shop’

You need to start putting things in your shopfront. What content are you going to put in your shopfront (i.e. your authority platform)?

What content are you going to create? What talents of yours are you showcasing (your services, your knowledge etc)?

In other words, how can you help people?

This is what goes in your shopfront to attract your community to you.

Hopefully, these people will eventually turn into buyers of your products or services.

Make sure you put things in your shopfront consistently. The more consistent your shopfront is, the more of a community you will attract, and you’ll get lots of visibility for your brand and your shopfront.

Also, I bet you have got free samples from stores. This ‘free sample’ strategy is even more important online.

You can go out into the street and say, “Hey, take a free sample but leave me your name and email address, because I want to follow up and offer you other free samples, goodies and of course, things that I’m selling at a later stage.”

That’s online business explained in a nutshell! Give out free content that helps people in your niche while collecting their names and email addresses.
