Welcome to Episode 11 of Make it Happen Monday!

Published every Monday, this is my weekly video series helping you to blast through any barriers holding up your success in life and business and giving you weekly tips and inspiration to move forward to achieve your goals and dreams.

How often do we stop ourselves from doing things because of how we feel, either about what we’re going to do or the potential outcome?

Perhaps it’s fear that stops us, or maybe we just don’t feel like doing it, or perhaps we’re procrastinating usually brought on by overwhelm or lack of direction.

Whatever it is, it’s your emotions stopping you.

Sometimes this is a good thing, as our minds are programmed to protect us from harm.

But sometimes that protection stops us from taking positive life changing actions that can help us achieve our goals.

Today, I want to talk about how we allow our emotions to get in the way of what we want, and how to overcome this.

How many times have we stopped ourselves from doing something because of the way we feel?

For example, we really want to get fit, which inevitably means working out regularly.

Some days we’re up for it. Other days we just don’t feel like it. We don’t feel like going to the gym, going for a walk, a swim etc.

In our businesses, some days we’re full of beans. Other days, we don’t feel like playing around with our website, emailing somebody, making calls etc.

We all know that going to the gym once in a blue moon will make no tangible difference to our fitness levels or figure.

We all know that working like crazy at our business twice a month but then doing nothing because ‘I don’t feel like it’ will get us nowhere.

Why do I ‘self-sabotage’?

 
I read an interesting article online recently which stated human beings are pre-dispositioned to be negative.

If our ancestors were distrustful in nature, they were more aware of their surroundings, more alert to danger, and more likely to stay alive.

Even today, we still have a natural propensity to look on the bad side rather than the good side.

This trait was fine when we needed this ‘alertness’ to survive, but it also holds us back from getting out there and living our dreams.

Train your brain

 
I was listening to a fantastic lady called Mel Robbins. She gave this really high-spirited, energetic Ted Talk that really grabbed my attention.

I’ve been really lax on exercising. I’ve got a swimming pool right here and a beautiful place to walk. I became determined to exercise more.

Guess what? This determination kept falling by the wayside.

I was always too busy. I had meetings, calls and videos to make. I had emails to answer. There was always something more important.

Mel Robbins says, when we have goals, 99% of the time we’re just not going to feel like doing what it takes to reach those goals.

True, isn’t it? You want to get fit, but most days, you just don’t want to go to the gym.

You want a successful business, but most days, you just don’t want to make that video, create that sales page etc.

We need to train our brains, just like we train our muscles, so that we can be super positive every day.

When we stay in a negative state of mind, we will not do the things we need to do to achieve our goals.

Negativity leads to overwhelm, procrastination, and self-doubt. If we cultivate a positive mind-set every day, we’ll take more risks and do things that we wouldn’t otherwise do.

We would take action, go for our goals and laugh in the face of fear!

How do we do this?

Mel Robbins says it is not about how you feel at any given moment, it is about what you want.

People who achieve their goals are those who have trained their mind to concentrate on what they want, NOT what they actually feel like from day to day, moment to moment.

They do not allow their emotions to get in their way. They do not acknowledge the feeling of ‘oh, I don’t feel like it.’ They just do it anyway!

Your challenge!

 
Your challenge this week, should you choose to accept it, is…

Train your brain to be positive every single day:

1) Cultivate a ‘morning routine.’

There’s a guy called Hal Elrod who wrote a book called “Miracle Morning.” His concept is ‘win the morning, win the day.’
It’s about creating a morning routine that empowers you to really get out there and live the life you want to live every single day

Exercise is a brilliant morning routine as it gets you up and ready to face the day.

I walk for half an hour every day around this beautiful marina before I start any work. You might want to run, or swim, or do some yoga…whatever you like.

2) Fuel your brain every day with empowering stuff that helps you to think positively.

I love listening to Ted Talks, and other motivational podcasts. Find people who resonate with you in a positive way and listen to them. Feed positivity into your mind every day.
On my daily half hour walks, I listen to a really good podcast. I’m fuelling my mind, getting daily education AND exercising!

3) Do steps 1 and 2, even when you don’t feel like it!

Will you want to exercise or work on your business every day? Nope!

“I don’t want to go to the gym, I don’t want to build that website, I don’t want to call that person, I don’t want to listen to a podcast with somebody spouting in my ear – I’m not in the mood!”

Hal Elrod completely backs up what Mel Robbins was saying.

He says the difference between people who are living their dreams, versus people who just dream their dreams, is that they take action and do what’s required, no matter how they feel.

You are going to hear that voice in your head saying “I don’t feel like it.”

I challenge you to do it anyway, even if you don’t feel like it.

It’s not about how you feel on any given day or moment, it’s about what you want.
You will feel so empowered afterwards!
