“Make the main thing the main thing” said clever chap Stephen Covey (and renowned author and educator who is sadly no longer with us.)

Make the main thing, the main thing.

In other words make sure you’re focusing on the most important element of your business or life at all times, instead of getting distracted and caught up in irrelevant or less important minutiae.

Hard to do I know, but wow will it change the quality of your life!

Imagine knowing exactly what it is you need to do each day to move your business forward?

Imagine knowing exactly what you need to do each day to feel more productive, more efficient, more energetic, more connected, happier, etc.

Well it turns out we do know, we just don’t do it and I’m right there with you!

Life gets in the way! We get tired, bored, restless, aggravated, frustrated, (add gloomy adjective here).

Or life throws us curveballs and upends our plans and we find ourselves scrambling to return to a semblance of normality.

However, if at all times we remain grounded and make the main thing the main thing, no matter what happens, we can stabilize ourselves quickly and return to the path which serves us.

For example this week two things have happened for me that threw me off my path.

Firstly, I’m in love with the blogging lifestyle business model. So much so I wish I’d started 10 years ago.

Aside from it being a writers paradise, and I love to write, it’s not as dynamic as some of the social media platforms, and in my mind resembles a cargo ship rather than a zippy little speedboat.

Not as sexy I know, but the challenge with social media is that you have to be in it to win it 24 hours a day! It’s exhausting!

What I love about blogging is that a quality piece of content can still be found at the top of google years after it’s been published.

In fact, I published posts back in 2020 which are still at the top of the search engine results pages and generating me traffic every day and I haven’t touched them since!

However, in the last few weeks, I’ve been messing about with Instagram and paying it far too much attention rather than publishing blog posts which I know will move me closer to my goals.

Why? Because writing and publishing blog posts every week, week in, week out gets laborious, and posting fun images or videos on Instagram is sexier!

But that’s where the magic lies. In the daily routines. The daily habits that move us closer to our goals.

Sure if I wanted to become an influencer on Instagram and that was my main thing, then focusing on posting every day would be my main thing, but my goal is to grow my blog, that’s my main thing; so make the main thing your main thing and make sure you’re doing something every day to move your main thing forward!

Secondly, on a more personal note, I received the bad news last week that my knees are screwed. They’re very unfortunately, bone on bone, and to make the most of my life I need to pack up my more high-impact sports like Muay Thai boxing (which I love) and tennis (which I also love).

A blow for sure, but my main thing is to be fit and strong, not to become a martial arts expert or the next Serena Williams. I simply need to find exercises and sports which support my body and help me achieve my goals of becoming fit & strong to be able to travel the world unimpeded by mobility issues!

Sure life can get a bit dull sometimes, it can also send us reeling into what feels like a Tsunami other times. The main thing is always to make the main thing the main thing.

This will undoubtedly very quickly help you get back on track.
