Copysmith Review: Features

Copysmith has several features that can be helpful for copywriters, content writers, SEO agencies, marketing agencies, and eCommerce store owners.

50+ Templates

screenshot of copysmith articles and blogs templates

Copysmith has 50+ templates and tools. All templates are grouped and classified into segments like eCommerce, Ads, Articles & Blogs, Branding & Web, Brainstorming, and Enhancements.

However, you will notice a few templates are common in various segments. Interestingly, there are a few community-generated use-case templates that you can download and use. If you want, you can even custom use-case templates for yourself.

New Editor

The company recently added a new editor that will allow you to create content for different use cases in a single document.

However, not all use cases are available. That is, the editor only supports a handful of templates.

One of the biggest problems I noted while working with the new editor is that the AI generates content in different languages even though the output language is set to English.

That’s the worst an AI can do. The scenario happened when I first used the AI to generate a blog outline and then asked it to Expand.

That’s a Digital Sin!

Blogging Templates

For blog owners looking to scale content, there are several blogging templates available including, but not limited to:

  • Blog Title
  • Editor
  • Content Rewriter
  • Content Enhancer
  • Blog Ideas
  • Blog Outline
  • Content Expander
  • Bullet Point Expander, etc.

The ones that I want to highlight include the Editor, Content Expander, and Content Rewriter.

Editor

The Editor is essentially the new editor that I mentioned above. You can provide a command (instruction) and let the AI generate the output.

Though the editor looks like a blank canvas, you can access the formatting options by highlighting the text the AI generates.

While I understand developers went for minimalism, keeping the formatting options hidden is not a clever idea as it impedes speed and often messes with the overall formatting.

Another problem with the Editor is you cannot give a direction to the content the AI generates. It will just write on its own.

Even if you select a sentence and select Extend from the Improve Writing menu, the AI will just write something unrelated.

screenshot of copysmith text extend feature

For example, I wanted the editor to extend the sentence “Including spinach in your diet can help you to avoid gastrointestinal problems.” Simply put, I wanted the AI to write more about how spinach can help to avoid gastrointestinal issues.

Here is the output that Copysmith came with:

This AI copywriter not only failed to understand what I wanted but even produced irrelevant content. It included information on Lettuce!

Content Expander

To write long and informative blog posts, it is often necessary to write detailed information. This is what the Content Expander is supposed to help with.

In fact, this is the template that you must use to generate a long-form article after you have the blog outline.

The Content Expander will accept a small piece of text and expand the information with more relevant information.

Unfortunately, Copysmith is a sheer disappointment here.

Here is the highlighted text I wanted Copysmith to expand:

Here is what Copysmith did:

There are three iterations. The second one is a contraction! The first and the third options just repeat the same information. In fact, it removed the information on gut bacteria!

Content Rewriter

If you are into content marketing, you might want to repackage your old content and use it elsewhere. This is where a rewriting or paraphrasing tool comes in handy.

But how good is Copysmith’s rewriter tool?

The big problem is that you cannot rewrite more than 500 characters at once. Even though the limit is 500 characters, if your text is close to that limit, the tool will warn you that the content is a bit too long and can lead to undesired results.

Fortunately, the rewrites are acceptable. Some iterations have horrible synonym usage, but overall, it did a decent job. Take a look:

You can even run a plagiarism check for each output. Copysmith allows plagiarism checks for any content it generates.

E-Commerce Templates

Copysmith has a bunch of eCommerce templates such as general Product Description, Amazon Product Description, Instagram Product Description, FAQ Ideas, Sales Email Generator, etc. While it is not possible to cover all templates, let’s go through a couple of them.

Product Descriptions

The first template “Product Description” is for those who own e-Commerce stores and don’t sell through marketplaces like Etsy, Amazon, eBay, etc.

I found that the template generates false information. Here is a sample output for an Ayurvedic product.

screenshot of copysmith product description template in action

Unfortunately, even though I mentioned a few characteristics of the product and never mentioned the ingredients, the AI just made up the ingredients! Check the image with highlighted text.

There is no way to instruct the AI to not generate false information and use only the information fed in the input fields.

You need to heavily edit whatever the tool generates. This defeats the whole purpose!

Amazon Product Descriptions

Copysmith does a better job with Amazon product descriptions. I didn’t notice any factually incorrect information and the output included all the information I fed into the input fields.

Here is a sample output:

AI Learning/Training

screenshot of copysmith community generated templates

There is no way to manually train the AI. However, if you like an output generated by the AI, you click on the ‘like’ button. This will ensure that the AI uses the same writing tone and structure to generate future content.

Unfortunately, that’s not a very foolproof method of training an AI. Rather, the ability to control the output direction & quality is more effective.

The good news is that Copysmith allows the creation of custom templates (or content generators). You can provide prompts and inputs and finally run experiments to validate the template.

Once your template is ready, the Copysmith team will review it and either approve it or decline it. Copysmith currently has eight community-created templates that you can download and use.

Art Studio

Art Studio is an add-on service that costs $15 a month. It is a text-to-image generation service. You just need to provide descriptive text describing the image you want. The AI will then generate four images using the description.

Integrations

Copysmith currently offers integrations with Shopify, Google Ads, Google Docs, Frase AI, and Zapier.

For integration with Google Docs, you must install their Chrome Extension through the Chrome web store. Separate apps are available for Hootsuite, WooCommerce, and Microsoft Word.

Copysmith also offers API access for custom integrations. You must request API access if you need it.

Copysmith Review: Copysmith Alternatives

Copysmith vs. Jasper AI

Like Copysmith, Jasper AI uses GPT-3 and deep learning to generate content. However, Jasper AI offers more templates and does a better job with long-form content generation.

Jasper has something called Jasper recipes, which are essentially a set of instructions or commands that users can create to control output flow. There is no such feature on Copysmith.

However, just like other AI writing tools, both Copysmith and Jasper AI are good with technical content.

Copysmith vs. Writesonic

Writesonic is another GPT-3-based AI writing tool that you can use to write a blog intro or an entire blog post. Interestingly, Writesonic has over 100 templates for creating engaging content. However, there are some very unique templates available with Writesonic that you will not find with Copysmith.

Moreover, Writesonic has a ChatGPT-like conversational AI tool that can integrate with Google Search and offers real-time data for content creation.

Copysmith vs. Rytr

Rytr is a similar AI writing tool that focuses on short-form content and has 30+ templates compared to 50+ templates offered by Copysmith. However, the content quality produced by Rytr is better than Copysmith.

Ryter is also incredibly cheaper and this content generator will allow unlimited words for as little as $29 a month.

Copysmith Review: Summary

Powered by GPT-3, Copysmith is an AI writing assistant that helps to save time with content ideation and brainstorming.

However, Copysmith’s performance is abysmal for both short-form and long-form content generation, but with a few exceptions.

If you are looking for an AI writing assistant, it is better to choose alternatives like Jasper AI, Copylime or even ChatGPT, etc. that offer a more logical and simple user interface as the quality of the content generated by Copysmith is not impressive.

If you want to try for yourself I recommend using the free trial and testing the tool thoroughly before you decide to buy a subscription. It may better serve your specific use cases.
