Reading Time: 11 minutes

Launching a private label product on Amazon can be an exciting and lucrative endeavor, but it’s important to have a well-thought-out plan in place.

In those first few days, you’ll want to be attracting as many sales as possible and have a system in place to continue generating consistent sales velocity after launch.

For that, you’ll need an Amazon Private Label launch checklist to help you get started. With the right strategies, you can increase your chances of success and maximize profits.

To help make sure everything goes smoothly, I’ve created this 14-part step-by-step Amazon private label launch checklist guide that will walk you through every aspect of launching a private label product on Amazon FBA.

From creating your listing and optimizing keywords to getting reviews and working with influencers – this checklist will help ensure that all bases are covered for a successful launch.

Let’s get started!

Amazon Private Label Launch Checklist – Pre-Launch

1. Pick the Right Product

Picking the right product is the first step to your successful product launch strategy.

High demand, low competition, and profitability are all essential product elements to consider to ensure you have not only a prosperous launch but an ongoing thriving business.

It’s also important to make sure that you target a passionate market. This can help get influencers involved, who can then further promote your products.

To make sure you are selecting the right product, JungleScout is one of the most comprehensive tools on the market for researching items and ensuring you pick a winner.

With data-driven insights into millions of different products, it can be invaluable when it comes to choosing the right one for you.

2. Build Your Brand

In the current ecommerce landscape, launching a product on Amazon and having a strong brand is essential to achieving success.

Gone are the days of simply listing a product and sitting back as it rises up the rankings – nowadays, with the sheer amount of competition, having a unique brand that stands out from the crowd is paramount if you want to turn a profit and remain successful on Amazon long-term.

Branding on Amazon gives sellers an opportunity to create loyalty and trust with shoppers, allowing you to connect with them in ways that go beyond just selling products.

Having an Amazon product launch coupled with an emotive presence allows sellers to engage their audience more effectively, creating relationships that will build repeat business and customer loyalty.

With Amazon continuing to grow at an exponential rate in 2023 and beyond, understanding how your audience perceives your brand and connecting with them through storytelling will be more important than ever before.

3. Sign Up for Brand Registry

This is a key step in how to launch a new product on Amazon successfully.

Once you have a brand established, the next step is to sign up for Amazon Brand Registry. This will help protect your products from intellectual property violations and counterfeiters by providing enhanced security measures.

It also allows you to upload high-quality images, create A+ content and manage text and images across all of your product listings more effectively.

4. Optimize Your Product Listings

One of the most important steps is to make sure to develop your product launch strategy by ensuring that your Amazon listing is optimized fully.

This means undertaking good keyword research and ensuring keywords are included in the title, bullet points, product description, and backend of your listing via the seller dashboard.

Good product images, especially the hero image, will help potential buyers engage more with your listing and increase click-throughs. Enhanced brand content can also be added to listings, for example with pictorial descriptions or videos which can give customers more information about your products.

Make sure to use compelling visuals and craft persuasive copy that converts & creates customer reviews (if possible) and be clever with your pricing, using a repricing tool to stay competitive at all times.

5. Create a Pre-Launch Funnel

If you’re feeling ambitious you can also create a pre-launch email funnel to drum up some interest in your product launch. Make sure this is always part of your new product launch strategy.

Simply create a landing page with a discount code or free shipping offer, to capture potential customers’ emails. This can be done by utilizing existing resources such as an existing website, blog, or social media account, with the user having to complete an opt-in form before being added to your mailing list.

Once the user has completed the form, direct them to a thank you page with the launch date, instructions on how to claim their offer, and an incentive to share the offer with friends and family.

Additional incentives such as contests or discounts can be offered to signees to further encourage them to take action.

Having this method in place prior to launch day means there is constant buzz and excitement about your product from day one, giving it the best chance of success.

6. Get Reviews

On your Amazon launch day, the goal is to get as many sales and reviews as possible. Having a good number of reviews is essential for any Amazon product.

Reviews are not just important for helping you convert more customers but also for increasing your listing visibility on Amazon.

As part of your product launch strategies, you can use a third-party review platform to help solicit reviews from past buyers or create a giveaway program where users who review your product will be entered into a draw. You can also incentivize customers directly with discounts or free products in return for leaving an honest review.

Get family and friends to help out early days and both buy, review, and spread the word about your product.

Avoid using groups or communities on Facebook or Instagram. Never use a review service, either. Amazon has an indicator called ‘trust score’ that they implemented after many years of abuse.

If you decide to use these review services, they will have a low trust score, and you’ll get no benefit. When launching, if you get more than 5% of the buyers leaving a product review, Amazon will consider this spammy. Try to stick to 3% to be safe.

7. Run Amazon PPC Sponsored Ads

Running Amazon PPC sponsored ads is a great way to get your product seen in the search results. It also has the added bonus of providing data on what keywords are being searched for and what people are looking for when they find your listing.

Having this information can help you optimize your listing further, making it more relevant to customers as well as increasing its visibility.

During launch week, ensure you’re running Amazon PPC ads continuously for the greatest chance of achieving early sales velocity.

8. Drive External Traffic

It’s also a good idea to drive external traffic to your Amazon listing. This can be done through various means such as email campaigns, social media posts, influencer marketing, blogging, and content marketing.

See if you can start to build some influencer relationships pre-launch and have some co-promoted campaigns ready to go during launch week.

These strategies will help boost the visibility of your product and get more eyes on it. Making sure you are targeting the right audience with an effective message is paramount for this strategy so ensure you have researched and know who your target audience is before launching these campaigns.

9. Work with Influencers

Once your product has launched, it’s a great idea to continue working with influencers who have an engaged audience and a following in the same niche as your product.

Offer to send them free products in exchange for honest reviews and promotional posts. You can also give them a unique link and offer a commission based on how many sales they influence.

Working with influencers was the secret sauce to our own 7 figure Amazon business and remains an extremely powerful strategy.

10. Engage in Ongoing Content Marketing

Content marketing is an effective and low-cost way to increase the visibility of your product. You can create content such as blog posts, tutorials, how-tos, reels, infographics, and more, that are related to your product or niche in order to engage more customers.

You can also use content marketing to build relationships with influencers and other key players within your niche. This will help you gain more exposure to your product and grow brand loyalty amongst potential customers.

11. Grow Your Brand

Don’t just focus on making sales. Focus on growing your brand overall.

Growing your brand can help you stand out from the crowd and get more eyes on your products. You can do this by creating a website, hosting a podcast, or through social media channels such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

Be useful, add value, and give potential customers a reason to want to do business with you. By creating content that is engaging and informative, you can build relationships with customers and capture their attention long before they even consider buying something from you.

12. Build Your Email List

Another great way to increase the visibility of your product is by building an email list. Having an engaged and interested audience who are subscribed to your updates will help you drive more traffic back to your Amazon listing.

You can use services such as Flodesk or ConvertKit to create email campaigns targeting potential customers, offering them exclusive discounts or behind-the-scenes information about your brand. This is a great way to build relationships and encourage customers to buy from you repeatedly.

An email list is also an extremely valuable asset should you ever decide to sell your Amazon business.

13. Monitor & Analyze Performance

Once you’ve launched your product, constantly monitor and analyze its performance in order to identify any areas where improvement may be needed.

Check sales velocity, pricing adjustments, and customer reviews as well as search terms used by customers that led them to your listing.

Then use this data to optimize your product’s listing and messaging for even better performance. This is an ongoing process so keep at it!

14. Reorder Inventory & Enjoy the Profits!

Once you have had a successful launch, calculate your profits & reorder inventory as soon as possible in order to keep the momentum going on Amazon.

With each passing day, the sales velocity should increase if managed correctly giving you more visibility & higher rankings on Amazon.

It’s also important to set up inventory management systems that will help you keep track of sales, inventory levels, and customer service – which are fundamental for long-term success on Amazon.

Using an inventory management system like Stitch Labs or SKULabs can help streamline the entire process and ensure accuracy in all areas so that you don’t run into any issues down the road.

Additionally, having integrated customer services tools such as Zendesk or GrooveHQ allows you to provide excellent support to your customers while keeping track of feedback more effectively.

It is critical to follow this step-by-step product launch strategy to ensure that your products get the proper attention it deserves on the platform.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully launched a private label product on Amazon FBA!

Amazon Private Label Launch Checklist – FAQs

How Do I Prepare for an Amazon Product Launch?

Preparing for a successful Amazon product launch should start long before you even list your product. You should research and choose the right category or niche, source reliable suppliers, build a great brand, create compelling content, and optimize your listing for success.

Additionally, you can use content marketing to engage potential customers and build relationships with influencers in your niche prior to launching your products. Ultimately, the stronger your brand, and the more people you can get in front of, the more successful your launch.

What Tools Do I Need For An Amazon Launch?

An Amazon product launch requires the right tools if you want to maximize success. You can use Jungle Scout for researching and picking a winning product to ensure that what you are selling is relevant, in demand, and profitable.

Amazon PPC tools such as Seller Central and Helium 10 allow you to run effective campaigns and get more visibility for your products.

Email marketing through Flodesk or ConvertKit also allows you to send tailored emails that you can personalize according to segments or specific user interests.

Using the right tools makes the whole product launch process much smoother and ensures you optimize all aspects for maximum engagement with customers.

What Does It Take To Succeed on Amazon?

Succeeding on Amazon takes dedication, persistence, and hard work. You should stay current with market trends, research competitive products & pricing and create effective content marketing strategies in order to increase visibility for your product.

Additionally, use analytics tools to monitor performance and reorder inventory as soon as possible to keep the momentum going on Amazon.

The key to success on Amazon is to keep your sales velocity consistent. The more consistent your sales, the higher Amazon will rank your product listing.

How Much Does it Cost to Launch a Product on Amazon?

The cost of launching a product on Amazon is highly variable depending on the particular product and business. Costs can include storage fees, shipping costs, promotional costs, and more.

Additionally, you should factor in the time it takes to research and optimize your listing for success as well as any marketing costs associated with influencer campaigns or content creation. Ultimately, it’s important to weigh all costs against potential profits for a successful launch.

See my article for a full breakdown of what it costs to start and launch an Amazon FBA business.

What Conversion Rate Should I Aim To Convert at When Launching a New Product?

During the first 45 days of launching a new product (also known as the honeymoon period), target a conversion rate of 25-30% (25 buyers from every 100 people viewing your product). You can achieve this by giving discounts to visitors (i.e $10 off your product).

Try to avoid having a higher conversion rate in the honeymoon period, as Amazon is gathering data in this period. Otherwise, the Amazon A10 algorithm will detect the conversion decrease and drop all your search term rankings.

    • Hi DeAngelo,

Launching a product on AMZ requires careful planning and execution. While there’s no guarantee of success, here are some key steps to increase your chances:

Product Research: Start by identifying a product that has a demand on Amazon but is not oversaturated with competition. Conduct thorough market research using tools like Jungle Scout or Helium 10 to find profitable niches and evaluate competition, demand, and pricing.

Product Differentiation: Differentiate your product from competitors by adding unique features, improving quality, or offering a better value proposition. Focus on providing a solution to a customer problem or addressing a specific need in the market.

Quality Sourcing: Ensure your product meets high-quality standards. Find reliable suppliers who can deliver consistent quality at a competitive price. Request product samples, conduct quality inspections, and establish a good relationship with your suppliers.

Branding and Packaging: Develop a compelling brand and create professional packaging that stands out on Amazon. Invest in attractive and informative product images, optimized titles, bullet points, and product descriptions. Use high-quality graphics and professional photography to enhance your listing.

Fulfillment Method: Decide whether you want to fulfill orders yourself (Merchant Fulfilled Network or MFN) or use Amazon’s fulfillment service (Fulfilled by Amazon or FBA). FBA is often recommended as it offers prime eligibility and efficient order handling, but it’s important to analyze the costs and benefits for your specific product.

Pre-Launch Marketing: Build anticipation and generate buzz for your product before the official launch. Utilize social media platforms, create engaging content, and build an email list to gather potential customers. Offer exclusive discounts or giveaways to incentivize early purchases.

Launch Strategy: Plan a comprehensive launch strategy that includes keyword optimization, sponsored ads, and promotional campaigns. Leverage Amazon’s advertising platform (Amazon Advertising) to increase visibility and drive traffic to your listing. Consider utilizing external marketing channels like influencer collaborations, content marketing, or press releases to expand your reach.

Customer Reviews and Feedback: Encourage customers to leave reviews by providing exceptional customer service and promptly addressing any concerns or issues. Positive reviews and high ratings can significantly impact your product’s success and organic rankings on Amazon.

Continuous Optimization: Monitor your product’s performance, track metrics like sales, conversion rates, and customer feedback. Continuously optimize your listing, adjust pricing, and explore new marketing strategies to stay competitive and maximize sales.

Remember, successful product launches on Amazon require persistence, adaptability, and the ability to learn from feedback and make improvements. Stay updated with the latest Amazon policies and guidelines to ensure compliance and maintain a positive selling experience.

    • Hi Wade,

Using Google Ads as part of your launch strategy for an Amazon product can be beneficial, but it depends on various factors. Here are some considerations to help you decide:

Target audience: Google Ads allow you to reach a broader audience beyond the Amazon platform. If your target audience is actively searching for similar products or keywords on Google, running Google Ads can increase visibility and drive traffic to your Amazon listing.

Cost-effectiveness: Assess the cost-effectiveness of running Google Ads. Consider the advertising costs, conversion rates, and potential return on investment (ROI). Compare this with other marketing tactics to determine if Google Ads align with your budget and goals.

Keyword competition: Evaluate the competitiveness of the keywords you intend to target with Google Ads. Highly competitive keywords may drive up costs and make it harder to achieve a favorable ROI. Conduct thorough keyword research to identify less competitive keywords that still have a decent search volume.

Amazon Advertising: Keep in mind that Amazon also offers its own advertising platform, Amazon Advertising. This platform is specifically designed for promoting products within the Amazon ecosystem. It’s worth considering whether leveraging Amazon Advertising would be more effective for your launch strategy.

Ultimately, the effectiveness of using Google Ads in your launch strategy depends on your specific product, target audience, budget, and marketing goals. It can be beneficial to consult with marketing professionals or Amazon selling experts to gain insights tailored to your specific situation.
