When I started my online journey back in 2010, the main route to making money online was a strategy called Direct Marketing.
Made famous by Dan Kennedys ‘No B.S.’ books, and influenced heavily by Gary Halbert copywriting strategies & the old 1966 classic ‘Breakthrough Advertising’ by Eugene Schwartz (now there’s some bedtime reading), this money making strategy was used & taught by the internet marketing OG; including Frank Kern, Ryan Deiss, Russell Brunson, Jeff Walker and so on, making some of those guys very rich in the process!
Some 13 years later, the landscape has dramatically changed and there are literally hundreds of ways to generate an income online these days, possibly even thousands, without a 12 step sales letter to be seen!
So let’s start with just 5 different ways you could start today, and be making a minimum of $1000 a month from your laptop in a matter of days to a few weeks;
1. Freelancing
Undoubtedly the fastest way to get started. Freelancing is similar to a standard job, in that you’re trading time for money. But you get to do it in your own time, from your own location and charge what you think you’re worth!
To get started, assess your skills, create a profile on Upwork, freelancer.com, Fiverr, (there’s loads more), and start bidding for jobs.
We have tested it here in the YLB household and I guarantee, if you’re confident and write a great bid for jobs you can be earning within days. You should have no problem generating $1000 a month pretty much from the get go.
2. TikTok
TikTok is a bit like Facebook was 13 years ago.
When I started on FB, the organic reach was insane and you could grow a facebook fan page and audience super fast. That’s where TikTok is now. People are growing followings of millions in a matter of weeks and months without spending a dime on ads.
If you don’t fancy getting in front of the camera, there are plenty of faceless accounts. The trick is to pick a niche people are interested in and then post a lot! 4 – 5 video posts a day is the way to go with TikTok.
Unfortunately it looks like you won’t generate a massive amount from the creator program, but with an engaged and passionate audience, you could generate $1000 a month via sponsorships and brand collaborations.
And that’s before you start to encourage people to join your email list.
3. YouTube
Not quite the meteoric growth you can expect with TikTok, but far more lucrative.
If you focus on YouTube as your primary channel and post quality videos minimum once a week, with daily shorts to supplement, as long as your niche is specific and there’s a passionate audience, you can expect solid growth over time.
Spencer Haws from Niche Pursuits is experimenting with a ‘faceless’ YouTube channel right now. He started it in February this year and as of May started to generate almost $150 a day! Just shows it can be done!
Plus YouTube have just lowered the threshold to enter their monetization program. The new requirements are;
- Having 500 subscribers;
- 3 public uploads in the last 90 days;
- and either 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.
Previously, the conditions were:
- Having at least 1,000 subscribers;
- and either 4,000 watch hours in the past year or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.
So what are you waiting for?
4. Etsy
Etsy is a fantastic site to build a side hustle or even a fully fledged lifestyle business.
If you’re a creator you can make and sell unique items to a very engaged community. However, for the purposes of my style of lifestyle biz, my recommendation is to sell print on demand or printables like stickers.
You will need to spend to make with Etsy and use their ads platform. But once again as long as the niche you pick is a passionate one (think pets, coffee, Mom’s/Mum’s etc), and are creative and unique with your designs, you can quickly rise to $1000 a month in income and then profits.
Personally I follow Sarah on her YouTube channel ‘Wholesale Ted’ for all things print on demand.
As I write, I’ll shortly be launching my own Etsy store and am looking forward to sharing my journey with you!
5. Books
If you’re a lover of books, there are a few different ways you could monetize your passion!
Firstly you could write, publish and sell them on KDP. Nowadays, with the help of an AI writing assistant, you could write a book in a weekend!
Then to monetize further, record yourself speaking your book and sell on Audible. (You will need high quality sound for this).
Another route would be to sell medium to low content books on Amazon & Etsy. Think adult coloring books, recipe books, planners, journals, diaries etc.
Sam Barnes, a young chap I recently connected with, wrote this post on Amazon KDP for beginners for my website on how to get started with this strategy.
Lastly, get paid to read books aloud! Become a narrator for Audible, or there are lots of other websites that pay for narrators and voice overs also.
Another 5 Ways
I wanted to include 10 ways to generate $1000 a month but the post would have gotten too long, so here are the other five I pencilled in to include;
- Selling on print on demand marketplaces like Redbubble, teespring, Zazzle etc
- Selling arbitrage on Amazon, Poshmark, or Depop
- Becoming an Amazon Influencer and spending your days reviewing products
- Starting a newsletter which I covered in detail last week
- Creating online video courses and selling on your own site or marketplaces such as Udemy, Skillshare etc
See! Not a scarcity ploy, 7 day launch strategy, or sales letter to be seen!
